Lesson 5 - 3D Spatial Design

First published Mar 19, 2013

3D spatial design assignment:  to show understanding of spatial knowledge, and to design a light for the room. This room was created from a mock brief from a 14 year old girl.  Purple is her favorite color, so complementary colors of yellow and purple were chosen. There’s a bed, a workstation as well as an area to hang out with friends.

Room construction: foam core
Bed: popsicle sticks
Bedding: fabric covered sponges!
Headboard bookcase: foamcore styled with buttons and a mini camera keychain
Blind: folded fabric and string
Large bookcase: foamcore styled with a teddy, shell, Christmas ornaments and magazines made from newspapers… it’s really hard to style on such a small scale!
Bean bags: fashioned after a large knitted bean bag spotted at Koskela… filled with rice.
Trestle desk: Popsicle sticks, foam core and paint
Chair: Hard plastic from the glue gun packaging, two ends off a coat hanger and a bit of hot glue.
Walls: More painted popsicle sticks
Rug: Pieces of felt dipped in different colors of mixed gouche paint
Lighting: 40 pieces of vellum cut out in the shape of a Frangipani petal and glued to the end of a pencil crayon.
