Cherry Blossoms

Spring 2010 - I've had it in my head for a couple of years now that I want a large photo of cherry blossoms for the wall space over my bed. I've been driving myself a bit crazy with all the cherry blossom pics... so many photos, but never quite right. Some have been too far away; some have had too much blue sky in the background. When I found this cherry tree with its branches within reach, I just shot a whole pile of pictures hoping I'd get one that would strike me. Now I can't choose. But one day soon... I will get one of these enlarged into a 16x20 canvas for the white frame over my bed...

New York Highline

New York - Highline - Both my travel companion and I had read about the Highline in design magazines, had wanted to visit it, and ended up stumbling across it as we exited the Meatpacking District. It was an elevated train line that they are in the process of converting into a landscaped elevated walkway. It's very cool... but I only grabbed a couple of shots with my Holga, as we were in a hurry to get to the airport. (Turns out we were both hours early for the airport, so could have spent more time here. Next time...)

Sidewalks of New York

New York - January/10 - The second roll of Holga film went slightly better than the first. I tried out black and white film... and the shots kind of turned out like 1900s NY... kind of fun!

New York - Holga

New York - January/10 - I had read about Holga cameras in a few places... and thought it looked like fun, a chance to view the world in a different way. A $30 toy camera that uses medium format film. I thought New York would be a great place to try out the new camera... though I should have practiced with it before I left. This cheap camera leaves a lot of room for error... back falling off, button for Bulb/Normal setting easily bumped, foam for holding film tight can come loose, forgetting to take the lens cap off, not having it on the right setting: Sunlight vs. Cloud. All of these things can and did happen on my first roll of color film. These are the only two shots that turned out. The rest are a mess of light leaks, unexposed film, messy film due to foam being rolled up inside.

MoMA

Museum of Modern Art, NYC - So happy with this photo... which proves to me that I don't always need sunny skies for outdoor photography. Cloudly days lend themselves well to moody photos, and photos out of the ordinary.
