I've been fortunate enough to live within five minutes of the ocean my whole life. However, how much do we take for granted the beauty in our own neighborhood? Sometimes we end up with more images of other places, than we do of our own backyard. White Rock Beach is a natural beauty, which is particularly appreciated on a stunning sunny day after a long bout of ugly winter weather.

River Road

We were on a wild goose chase one evening in the summer, trying to wrap up things before my brother headed home to Sydney. Driving over the Gilbert Street Bridge in Richmond after taking a wrong turn, I spotted a very funky building on the river, with a wedding taking place out on the dock. A few days later, I happened to be in the area with time on my hands, so went to check it out. The building is the UBC Boathouse and is available for events.
The Boathouse is at one end of a modern walkway that is currently under construction. It runs from Gilbert Bridge around Cambie St. There are some modern public gardens, and play areas for kids. Loving the public art - the huge sculpture sits at the end of Cambie Street, and represents water in motion. Next time you're in Richmond, and in need of an inspirational walk... make your way over to Cambie and River Road.

Sky
Feb/10 - Wintery sky over White Rock Beach. Found this lost neg in my files... forgot I had even taken this shot. I love the cloud formation... I'm sensing a new obsession... clouds! I've been staring up at their pillowy softness for a while now.... as well, I've seen some really cool shots on Etsy... so will have to give it a shot!!

Light Installation
Light Installation - Lunar Festival, Granville St. - This light installation was part of an art exhibit in connection with the Vancouver Olympics. I continue to be impressed with how film handles light. I had started shooting this sculpture with a tripod... but am continually frustrated with the restrictions of a tripod. Besides... I don't want my photos to look like Uncle Al's! I switched over to my 50mm fixed lens and shot these photos hand held. Love that lens!
