Peach Pleasure

Peach Pleasure

I think this recipe is from an Glamour magazine circa 2000.  I recall making it way back then and it being really yummy.  I wondered if time had glossed the memory, so I made it again yesterday.  Nope... still tasty!  How can it not be with all that butter!?

Ingredients
1 stick, chilled, unsalted butter plus extra for greasing the pan
3 1/2 cups peeled, sliced peaches* (other frozen fruit works as well)
3/4 cup all purpose flour
2/3 cup granulated sugar
3/4 tsp cinnamon
Whipped cream (to serve)

Heat oven to 375F (190C).
In a medium bowl, stir together flour, sugar and cinnamon.
Cut cold butter into cubes and cut into the flour mixture until mixture is crumbly (but not greasy).
Thoroughly butter an 8x8 baking pan.
Place peach slices in the pan.
Spoon flour/butter mixture over top of the peach slices.
Bake 30-35 minutes or until juices are bubbly and topping is browned.
Serves 4 - don't forget the whipped cream!

*For this recipe, I peeled and sliced fresh peaches, then froze them before using them. I think it keeps them from going mushy in the cooking process.

I don't know where the time has gotten too... Baby Dax is almost seven weeks old!  These pictures were taken when he was one week old.  Half were shot with black and white film, the other half were shot with black and white digital... can you tell which are which!?

Snowbirds

Snowbird aerial show at White Rock Beach. Not quite sure why I love the Snowbirds so much!  Maybe it's the need for speed, and maybe it's the Top Gun reference!  Anyway... it's pretty amazing to watch them fly in formation, and have them buzz not very far over the top of your head!

A couple of outtakes from today's photo shoot... Jake playing 'piders (Itsy Bitsy Spider) and 'bus' (Wheels on the Bus) on my iPhone.  From Duck Duck Moose Design for iPhone... provides hours of entertainment for kids, small AND big.  (Except I now have "The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round' rotating through my head!)

Patty's Patisserie

First published on June 25, 2011

My friend Patty is a fabulous baker (and cook too!)  Every time I visit, her kitchen smells of chocolate and sugar.  My eyes are always peeled for any little ends to pop in my mouth, or spoons to lick!  She has been baking up a storm in preparation for her table at Ivory Vintage Market tomorrow... find her there and pick up some homemade baking for yourself... cinnamon buns, cupcakes, rustic tarts, lemon bars, date squares, yummy cookies and more!

Pink peonies are the ultimate girly flower... the unapologetic color, the layers of frills, the heady scent.  Love 'em!

Vintage Polaroid

On second thought, my brother might not appreciate the blog title of "Vintage Polaroid"... seeing as the camera is from the same year he was born!  He's a good sport though, always patiently posing for pictures for me!

Loren is back in Vancouver only briefly, before returning home to Sydney.  He's just completed a 5 month motorcycle journey from Vancouver to Buenos Aires.  Steel Horse Tour is where you can read all about his adventures.

Location: Vancouver, E 5th Ave near Terra Breads
Prop: Polaroid camera found in our father's camera collection.
